Capsule is running slow for some users this morning sorry. We are working on it.

The slow down is due to increased latency on a storage volume.  Performance has improved over the last 30 minutes, but is still reduced.  We have raised a support case with our infrastructure provider (Amazon Web Services) to investigate the latency on the storage volume.

Amazon have confirmed they are investigating increased latencies for a subset of EBS volumes. According to our own monitoring, performance is just about back to normal levels.

Amazon have confirmed performance is back to normal which correlates with what we are seeing.  Sorry for slow patch earlier today.

We’re currently seeing reports of slow performance and investigating.

We’ve tracked down the cause of this.  Unfortunately one of our scheduled backup process took longer than expected, and a subsequent scheduled backup process started before the first completed.  The result was two very slow running backup processes running in parallel which severely degraded the performance of the system.

Sorry for the very slow performance of Capsule over the past 40 minutes.  We are updating our scripts and processes to ensure this problem doesn’t happen again.

The system will be unavailable for 1 hour from 8:00 GMT Sunday, 12 February.

We had a period of very patchy performance between 9.15am and 12.45am BST this morning. Sorry to those users affected. We’ve increased our server capacity and will be making further changes this weekend.

As a result of the planned maintenance, Capsule will be unavailable on Sunday, 26 September between 9:00 and 13:00 BST.
